history

Rear view of the Maria-Hilf Hospital

Since its foundation by representatives of the local parish in 1923, all illnesses of the residents of Gerthe and the surrounding area have been treated in the St. Maria-Hilf Hospital.

The progress of medicine, the aging of society, multiple illnesses and economic necessities have ensured specialization in the hospital landscape for some time. Against this background, the acute geriatric department at St. Maria-Hilf Hospital was founded in 1990. Initially, this department had 41 beds. In 2005 the department was expanded to 80 beds due to the great demand. After the Marien Hospital Wattenscheid joined the Catholic Clinic in Bochum, the department was relocated to the Marien Hospital Wattenscheid at the end of 2016.

In 2005 the vein center of the St. Josef Hospital moved to the St. Maria Hilf Hospital. A building with an operating theater, an ambulance, examination rooms and a ward is available here. It is an interdisciplinary facility of the University Clinic for Dermatology, Allergology and Venereology at St. Josef Hospital in Bochum. All forms of venous diseases are treated. With 10,000 outpatients and 2,000 operations, the vein center is one of the largest in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Since January 2006 the St. Maria-Hilf has been sponsored by the Katholisches Klinikum Bochum GmbH .
