The Augusta-Kranken-Anstalt from the air (2007)

The Augusta-Kranken-Anstalt is a hospital in Bochum . The carrier is the Augusta-Kranken-Anstalt gGmbH , which belongs to the Evangelical Foundation Augusta . The clinic is the academic teaching hospital of the University of Duisburg-Essen .

history

The establishment of the hospital was initiated by Protestant citizens in 1864. It was set up in a residential building on Brückstrasse and had 12 beds. In 1867, a plot of land was purchased between Castroper Strasse and Bergstrasse . In 1870 they moved into house A , which had 100 beds.

Population growth, wars and epidemics demanded constant expansion of the complex. The architects involved included Theodor Haarmann , Heinrich Schwenger and Heinrich Schmiedeknecht .

The company took over the Evangelical Hospital Bochum-Linden in 1991 .

In 2009, a nurse was banned from wearing a headscarf as a commitment to Islam . She shouldn't show her deviant religious affiliation in public; even the alternative of wearing a nun's hood was rejected by the clinic. She was charged with behaving loyally and refraining from anything that could be viewed as an expression of opinion directed against the Protestant Church. The Bochum labor court ruled in 2010 for the employee. The Hamm Regional Labor Court ruled in 2012 for the clinic. The Federal Labor Court also ruled in 2014 that church employers could forbid this, but it still had to be determined whether the employer could actually be assigned to the church (Federal Labor Court, judgment of September 24, 2014, file number 5 AZR 611/12).

structure

The clinic in Bochum-Mitte has 486 beds in 14 specialist departments. The location in Bochum-Linden has 81 beds.

Around 1,000 people are employed at the two locations in Bochum, who treat around 16,000 inpatients and a further 20,000 outpatients annually.
