The Clinic for Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine of the Ruhr University Bochum in the St. Josef Hospital , formerly the Westphalian State Children's Hospital , is a former independent hospital for neonatology and pediatrics at Alexandrinenstrasse 5 in Bochum . The sponsor is the Clinic Group of the Catholic Clinic in Bochum .

history

The infant home in Bochum was opened on November 1, 1925. It had 96 beds for infants and 74 beds for wet nurses, nursing mothers and staff. The training of pediatric nurses was made possible under the Midwifery Act of 1922. In the 1930s, a laboratory and an X-ray facility were added, supervised by a technical person. In 1942, the year of the war, the mortality rate of treated newborns was 42 percent. Due to a bomb damage, staff and patients had to move to Niedermarsberg in the Sauerland. The children's clinic stayed there until 1949.

In the 1950s the clinic had 135 beds. In 1963 the infection house was opened with another 80 beds. The nurses' home with 106 beds was also built in 1963. Among other things, the shortening of the weekly working hours (in 1951 there were 53 hours per week) and the extension of the training period led to an increasing need for personnel.

In 1977 the house became a university clinic as part of the Bochum model of medical training at the Ruhr University Bochum . In 1983 the clinic, like the neighboring St. Josef Hospital Bochum , was sponsored by the St. Elisabeth Foundation and later by the Katholisches Klinikum Bochum GmbH .

Facility

The house has 90 beds and employs more than 200 people. Today it has two locations, namely on Alexandrinenstraße at the Stadtpark Bochum and in the St. Elisabeth Hospital Bochum in the city center. In the house alone, over 20,000 children are treated annually in the emergency room. The facilities also include a kindergarten and a school.
