history

The hospital was founded in 1848 by Pastor Franz Ekel, parishioners and Bochum merchants. During this time, hospitals were primarily epidemiological and nursing homes for sick and needy people. Most of the patients received home care and medical treatment. Doctors in Bochum took on medical care free of charge and in addition to their practice.

The nursing of the sick was taken over by the order of the "Merciful Sisters of Saint Vincent of Paul zu Paderborn". They worked in nursing until 1971.

The house is now owned by the Catholic Clinic in Bochum .
