The Federal Association of Drug Manufacturers e. V. (BAH) is the German pharmaceutical association with the largest number of members . According to the association, it represents around 400 member companies in this sector (as of March 2020). In addition to traditional drug producers, it also includes around 100 other members from the health sector such as publishers and opinion research institutes .

The association is based in Bonn - Bad Godesberg ( Plittersdorf district ) and has another office in Berlin . He runs for its members lobbying mainly the Federal Ministry of Health and the federal authority , the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices .

history

The association was founded in Cologne in 1954 under the name "Representation of the interests of the drug advertising", at that time 66 companies belonged to it. In 1962, on the initiative of the association, the "Verein für Lautere Heilmittelwerbung eV (INTEGRITAS)" was founded, an association to protect and strengthen competition and advertising for medicines and related products. The focus of the association's work was initially on the promotion of self-medication and was later expanded to include the entire area of ​​pharmaceutical policy, including prescription drugs. The association is also involved in the field of material medical products . In order to further strengthen its presence in Berlin, the BAH relocated the areas of politics and communication, which were previously located in Bonn, to the federal capital. The Berlin office was officially opened in February 2016.

The BAH's special information services are the "Wissenschafts- und Wirtschaftsdienst" (WIDI) founded in 1987 with a range of seminars , manuals, text collections and brochures .

Name changes

In 1956 the drug association was transformed into “Fachvereinigung Heilmittelwerbung e. V. “renamed. In 1961 it was renamed the "Federal Association of the Therapeutic Products Industry and the Advertising Industry Associated with it (BWI)".
