The World Self-Medication Industry (WSMI) is an amalgamation of over 50 drug manufacturer associations from all continents and represents manufacturing and distribution companies for non-prescription drugs and dietary supplements worldwide . She advocates the strengthening of responsible self-medication with health authorities and health care professionals .

history

WSMI was founded in 1970 under the name World Federation of Proprietary Medicine Manufacturers (WFPMM) by the Association Européenne des Spécialités Pharmaceutiques Grand Public (AESGP), the Proprietary Association of USA (CHPA) and the Proprietary Association of Canada (CHP Canada). In the following two years, the Self-Medication Manufacturers' Association of South Africa (SMASA), the Japanese Self-Medication Industry and the Australian Self-Medication Industry (ASMI), followed in 1988 by the China Nonprescription Medicines Association (CNMA). The cooperation between WSMI and the World Health Organization received official status from 1977.

Members

According to its own statement, the WSMI encourages its members to adopt voluntary rules of conduct for advertising practice and consumer-friendly labeling of their products.

Germany is represented in the WSMI by the Federal Association of Drug Manufacturers (BAH), Austria by the Association of Austrian Remedy Manufacturers and Depositeurs (IGEPHA) and Switzerland by the Swiss Association for Self-Medication (ASSGP).
