Carl Christoph Merkel

Carl Christoph Merkel (born August 29, 1799 in Bassum , † January 19, 1877 in Hanover ) was a German administrative lawyer and politician.

Life

Merkel, son of a bailiff, studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1816 to 1819 and was a member of the Corps Bremensia there . In 1829 he became chamber secretary at the domain chamber, in 1832 treasury, 1866 government councilor and member of the finance directorate, in 1864 finance director in Hanover. In 1848/49 he was a member of the Hanover State Council .

From 1829/30 and from 1832 to 1866 Merkel was a member of the second chamber of the General Assembly of the Kingdom of Hanover and from 1832 to 1866 its general secretary. From June 27, 1848 to December 27, 1848 he was also a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly as a replacement for Georg Theodor Meyer . He was a member of the Casino factions , later Landsberg . There he was a member of the central committee for the examination of the elections.
