Theodor Haarmann (born June 5, 1824 in Halver ; † March 22, 1895 ) was a German architect and Prussian building officer who worked as a district building inspector in Bochum .

Life

Theodor Haarmann was a son of the couple Wilhelm Haarmann and Caroline Haarmann nee. Woeste. From 1849 he worked as an architect and construction clerk. Haarmann married Amalie nee on July 4, 1855. Wippermann. From the marriage the daughters Amalie (* / † 1856) and Anna were among others. Haarmann was a member of the board of directors of the Bochum association in the 1870s . in the 1880s he carried the title of building officer .

In the 1860s, Haarmann designed the synagogue and the neighboring school building on Wilhelmstraße in Bochum, as well as House A of the Augusta-Kranken-Anstalt Bochum , Bergstraße 26. In his later years he was still building the district court in the designed by Karl Friedrich Endell Bochumer Diekampstrasse or Schillerstrasse involved. In 1889 Haarmann was entrusted with the expansion and redesign of the Bleckkirche in Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck , for which other sources, however, name the Bochum master builder Hellhammer as the author. A transept and an apse to house the altar were added to the building. The design shows the style of neo-Romanesque .

Of the above-mentioned buildings, the Bleckkirche and, in a modified form, the building of the Augusta hospital have been preserved. The synagogue was expanded and rebuilt in the 1890s and destroyed during the so-called Reichskristallnacht in 1938 , the neighboring school fell victim to the air raids of World War II in 1943, the district court building was badly damaged in World War II, later rebuilt and demolished in 1974.
