Lössel is a district in the south of the city of Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis in the Sauerland . At the end of 2019, the village and Pillingsen had 1,409 inhabitants.

geography

The Hilkenhohl on the Lössel area reaches 441 meters above sea level .

history

Lössel was first mentioned in documents in 1396 as Lühringselle . Wilhelm Bleicher derives from this designation (“Selle” means “hall” or “house”) the “house of the Lühringer”, so that after further derivations based on sound shifts, Lössel can be translated as “the house of the people who descended from Lothar” . The mention of Lurxel in 1448, which was long thought to be the first, had caused older, probably incorrect attempts to derive the word Lurch.

The peasantry Lössel belonged to the middle of the 19th century to the Official Iserlohn, but came in 1841 for office Hemer . On January 25, 1921, it was detached from this again and formed with Oestrich the new Oestrich office. On October 1, 1956, Lössel came to the former town of Letmathe in what was then the Iserlohn district , with which it was incorporated into Iserlohn on January 1, 1975.

Buildings

War memorial

In Lössel there is a Protestant church with the Brunnenkirche , which was built in 1981 with the help of many Lössel citizens. Its bell tower houses the oldest bell in Iserlohn, the "Pankratius bell".

The war memorial at the cemetery commemorates two dead in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, 56 dead in the First World War and 86 in the Second World War .

economy

The place is essentially connected to the rest of the road network by Lösseler Straße to the north via the Iserlohn districts of Roden and Untergrüne . Narrow side streets lead over Pillingsen into the Untergrüne and into the Obergrüne.

There are no larger commercial enterprises. Economic life is completely oriented towards Iserlohn.
