history

Hennen was first mentioned in a document in 1313 in the Liber valoris in Cologne . The place previously belonged to the County of Limburg and came with it to the Electors of Brandenburg and Kings of Prussia .

Until 1974, Hennen was a municipality in what was then the Ergste district , in the former Iserlohn district . Hennen was incorporated into the city of Iserlohn on January 1, 1975. The area of the former municipality is the northernmost district of the city of Iserlohn.

The spiritual and historical center is the Johanneskirche , which was built in Romanesque style (around 1150). The church has been Protestant since the Reformation and has since been used simultaneously by the Lutheran and Reformed parishes that existed next to each other at the time . The place name Hennen is probably derived from the name of the church.
