The office Ergste was a municipal corporation ( office ) in the border area between the Ruhr area and the Sauerland . In 1808 the so-called head districts were detached from the county of Limburg and merged into one office . These districts were Ergste (official seat), Berchum and Hennen . Since 1817 the Ergste office belonged to the new Iserlohn district .

Johann Hermann Christian Hengstenberg was appointed mayor, but was always in dispute with the district administrator of the Iserlohn district, Peter Eberhard Müllensiefen . Hengstenberg was replaced in 1828 by the new mayor Verhoef. Amtmann Wiesner followed in 1835, who founded the Sparkasse of the Ergste Office.

On December 31, 1974, the Ergste office was dissolved by the Sauerland / Paderborn law . Berchum came to the independent city of Hagen , Ergste to the city of Schwerte in the Unna district and Hennen to the city of Iserlohn in the Märkisches Kreis .
