From 1975 he was director of studies there . As a part-time job, Bleicher worked from January 1, 1976 to March 31, 1985 as the scientific director of the Hagener Heimatmuseum in Hohenlimburg Castle ("Museum Hohenlimburg"), where he set up the department for prehistory and early history, the forerunner of the museum for prehistory in the moated castle Werdringen .

Wilhelm Bleicher was editor of the monthly Hohenlimburger Heimatblätter for the area of Hagen and Iserlohn . Bleicher wrote around 400 articles on regional, predominantly local history. In 1991 he was awarded the silver badge of honor of the city of Iserlohn for services in regional studies . Some of his works - including Section B ("The qualified findings") of Chapter VI of the version of his dissertation published in 1991 - are controversial as "speculative". The revisionist essay "The soldier and brigade leader of the Waffen-SS Fritz Witt " , written by Bleicher, was published in issue 5/2015 of the Hohenlimburg homeland sheets for the Hagen and Iserlohn area . This presentation led to severe criticism and the like. a. of the historian Ralf Blank , who proved that Bleicher had ignored the current state of research on the SS , used dubious and right-wing extremist sources and had disseminated an image of the Waffen SS, which was mainly widespread in right-wing circles. After the Association for Local and Local History Hohenlimburg had distanced itself, Bleicher publicly asked for forgiveness and resigned from the editorial office. The Green / Alliance 90 parliamentary group in the city council of Hagen demanded the return of the badge of honor given to Bleicher in 2014.
