Marvdascht (also Marvdašt Persian مرودشت) is a city in Fars Province in Iran 45 km north of Shiraz . There are several historical sites nearby, including Persepolis , Naqsh-e Rostam , Naqsh-e Rajab, and Istachr .
According to archaeological finds, the Marvdasht Plain, in which Darius I had Persepolis built, was inhabited a few thousand years earlier and is associated with ancient Anjan .
Today's city has three universities and is a center for various industries and agriculture.
The district of the same name is divided into four districts and contains the cities of Marvdascht, Seydan and Kamfiruz.
