Blumenthal / Haard 11 mine in Wanne-Eickel (2009)

The bill Shamrock was the first coal - mine in Herne . The mining company of the same name was founded on March 21, 1856. Her name is derived from the Irish national symbol of the shamrock . shamrock , as the mine was financed by Irish and Belgian investors and the company was headed by Irish native William Thomas Mulvany .

history

On August 24, 1967 was carried out punch at the shaft 11 on the 7th floor to the mine General Blumenthal . From then on, the facilities belonged to the General Blumenthal colliery under the name of Shaft 11. On October 31, 1967, the Shamrock colliery was shut down. At that time, the Chemische Werke Hüls plant was established on their premises , today a production site of the South African chemical company SASOL. A few buildings from the former mine are still preserved at the gate entrance. The Shamrock power plant is now located on the site of the former 3/4/11 mine .

From 1900 to 1975 the city of Herne used a cloverleaf with a mallet and iron in its coat of arms to commemorate the first mine in its borders .

Until 2017, the headquarters of RAG Aktiengesellschaft was located on the site of the 1/2/6/11 mine .

The vehicles of the Wupper-Lippe-Express have been serviced here since 2019/2020 , the VRR has commissioned the manufacturer Stadler to do this .
