The blue Congo tetra ( Phenacogrammus interruptus , Syn . : Alestopetersius interruptus , Hemigrammalestes interruptus , Micralestes interruptus , Petersius codalus ) is a freshwater fish from the African tetra family (Alestidae). It lives in the central Congo Basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo , its typical habitat are rainforest rivers.

The blue Congo tetra reaches a body length of up to twelve centimeters and can live a maximum of eight to ten years. In sexually mature males, the central rays of the caudal fin are elongated.
Way of life
The blue Congo tetra is a schooling fish . It lives bentho - pelagic , i.e. in the open water area close to the ground, and at an average water temperature of 23 to 26 degrees Celsius. It feeds on worms, small insects and crustaceans, as well as aquatic plants.
Aquaristics
Due to the splendor of colors in the males - the females remain inconspicuous - and its adaptability, the blue Congo tetra is one of the aquarium fish that are often kept.
