Valguarnera Caropepe is a town in the Free Community Consortium Enna in the region of Sicily in Italy with 7424 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Valguarnera Caropepe is located 30 km southeast of Enna . The residents mainly work in agriculture.
The neighboring municipalities are Assoro , Enna and Piazza Armerina .
history
The place was founded in 1628 by Francesco Valguarnera. In the second half of the 19th century, the population tripled from 5,000 to 15,000, which was mainly due to the flourishing sulfur mining in the area.
Excavations in the vicinity of the city brought up archaeological finds from the 7th century BC. BC and 14th century AD.
Attractions
The Chiesa Madre, dedicated to St. San Cristoforo, patron saint of Valguarnera, and the Palazzo del Municipio (town hall), built in the 18th century, in the surroundings of the former Monte Frumentario, are the most attractive buildings.
Town twinning
A partnership with the German city of Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate has existed since September 13, 2018 .
