Agira is a city in Enna consortium of municipalities outside the region Sicily in Italy with 8017 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).
location
The municipality of Agira is 37 km east of Enna at an altitude of 650 m above Lago Pozzillo . Agira is on the SS 121 Adrano - Leonforte .
The inhabitants live mainly from agriculture. There are cereals , legumes , almonds , olives and wine produced. In the trades, there are other jobs in carpentry and forging . There are also quarries and mineral water springs in the Agira area .
The neighboring municipalities are Assoro , Castel di Iudica ( CT ), Catenanuova , Enna , Gagliano Castelferrato , Nissoria , Ramacca (CT) and Regalbuto .
history
Agira was born in 399 BC. Founded as a Greek city. The name at the time was Agyrion . After that, the Romans and the Arabs ruled . The structure of the place has been preserved from the Arab period. In 1693 the community was badly damaged by an earthquake .

On the hill there is still a fort with towers from Arab times.
