Nicosia is a city in Enna consortium of municipalities outside the region Sicily in Italy with 13,217 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Nicosia is 48 km northeast of Enna . The inhabitants work mainly in agriculture and in marble and granite processing.
The districts are Marengo, Nicosia and Villadoro. The neighboring municipalities are Calascibetta , Castel di Lucio ( ME ), Cerami , Gagliano Castelferrato , Gangi ( PA ), Geraci Siculo (PA), Leonforte , Mistretta (ME), Nissoria and Sperlinga .
history
The place was created in Byzantine times . It continued to develop under Norman rule . Nicosia became famous through the visit of Emperor Charles V in 1535.
The city has been the seat of the Diocese of Nicosia since 1817 .
