Centuripe is a town in Enna consortium of municipalities outside the region Sicily in Italy with 5272 inhabitants (December 31, 2019).
Location and dates
Centuripe is located 80 km northeast of Enna . The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and the production of mineral water.
With the station Catenanuova-Centuripe the place has a connection to the railway line Catania- Enna and on to Palermo . The journey time to Enna is around 40 minutes.
The neighboring municipalities are Adrano ( CT ), Biancavilla (CT), Bronte (CT), Castel di Iudica (CT), Catenanuova , Paternò (CT), Randazzo (CT) and Regalbuto .
history
In ancient times , the Siculian place Kentoripa ( Greek Κεντόριπα , Latin Centuripae ) stood here . In the 5th century BC The Greeks conquered the place. In the 3rd century BC The local ceramic production ( Centuripe genus ) developed here . After an uprising in 1233, Emperor Friedrich II destroyed the city. It was re-established in 1548 under the name Centorbi and has been called Centuripe since 1863.
