Château-sur-Allier is located about 37 kilometers northwest of Moulins am Allier , which borders the municipality in the east. Château-sur-Allier is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mornay-sur-Allier in the north, Livry in the east, Le Veurdre in the south-east, Neure in the south, Lurcy-Lévis in the west and south-west and Sancoins in the north-west.
