history

The canton of Bourbon-l'Archambault was created on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the departments as part of what was then District de Cérilly . With the establishment of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was changed once again in terms of layout and assigned to the new arrondissement of Moulins. The nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in 2015 resulted in a significant expansion from eight to 29 municipalities. The eight communes before the reorganization were Bourbon-l'Archambault , Buxières-les-Mines , Franchesse , Saint-Aubin-le-Monial , Saint-Hilaire , Saint-Plaisir , Vieure and Ygrande . The old canton covered an area of ​​319.36 km ² and had a different INSEE code before 2015 than it does today, namely 0301.
