Bayet is a French municipality with 698 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Allier in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Moulins and the canton of Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule .
geography
The municipality is located about 20 kilometers northwest of Vichy . Neighboring communities are:
- Saint-Pourçain-sur-Sioule in the north,
- Loriges in the east,
- Saint-Didier-la-Forêt in the southeast,
- Broût-Vernet in the south,
- Barberier in the southwest,
- Étroussat to the west and
- Chareil-Cintrat in the northwest.
Bayet is crossed by the Sioule River and its tributary Bouble runs along the northwestern municipal boundary .
history
The parish of Martilly was incorporated into Bayet in 1807.

Attractions
The Romanesque church of Saint-Marcel was built in the 12th century. It is a registered cultural monument ( Monument historique ).
