Saint-Martin-des-Lais is located about 27 kilometers east-northeast of Moulins in the Sologne Bourbonnaise landscape on the Loire , which borders the municipality to the east. Saint-Martin-des-Lais is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Gannay-sur-Loire in the north and north-west, Cronat in the north and north-east, Vitry-sur-Loire in the east, Lesme in the south-east, Garnat-sur-Engièvre in the south and Paray- le-Frésil in the west.
