Luneau is about 60 kilometers east-southeast of Moulins on the edge of the Bourbonnais countryside . Luneau is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Léger-sur-Vouzance in the north, Chassenard in the north and north-east, L'Hôpital-le-Mercier in the east and north-east, Vindecy in the east and south-east, Avrilly in the south, Le Bouchaud in the south-west, Neuilly -en-Donjon in the west and Saint-Didier-en-Donjon in the north-west.
