Vindecy is a French municipality with 254 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
location
Vindecy is about a kilometer east of the Loire at an altitude of about 240 meters above sea level. d. M. in the old cultural landscape of the Brionnais . The place is located about 18 kilometers (driving distance) southwest of Paray-le-Monial or about 41 kilometers north of Roanne . The places worth seeing Anzy-le-Duc , Semur-en-Brionnais , Marcigny and Iguerande are all within a radius of about 15 to 20 kilometers; Charlieu is about 32 kilometers southeast.

In the 19th century the place had over 600 inhabitants at times. The phylloxera crisis and the mechanization of agriculture have resulted in a significant population decline since then.
economy
The hilly surroundings of Vindecy have always been characterized by agriculture, with viticulture being practiced well into the 19th century. In the meantime, cattle breeding ( Charolais cattle) plays a major role. The place itself functioned as a handicraft, trade and service center for several hamlets and individual farms in the area until the early 20th century.
history
The place or the church of Vindecy ( Vindeciaco ) is first mentioned in 1164 in a bull by Pope Alexander III. mentioned. The Pope, who was on the run, handed the church over to the Abbey of Saint-Martin of Autun . At the end of the 14th century, the Semur house seems to have temporarily been in control.

Château d'Arcy
The castle, which dates back to the 15th century but was rebuilt in the 17th century, is about one and a half kilometers south of the village and is privately owned; it has been recognized as a monument historique since 1983 .
Others
The parish church of Saint-Martin is a single-nave, quarry stone building from the 12th century, but inside the contemporary taste of the 16th / 17th century. Century reflects.
