Colombier-en-Brionnais is a French municipality with 308 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in Saône-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It belongs to the canton of Charolles (until 2015: canton of La Clayette ) and the municipal association Pays Clayettois .

Colombier-en-Brionnais is located in the Brionnais , 35 kilometers south of Montceau-les-Mines and 26 kilometers southwest of Cluny , surrounded by the neighboring communities of Ouroux-sous-le-Bois-Sainte-Marie , Bois-Sainte-Marie and Ozolles .
history
The place name was first mentioned in Latin , as Columbarium . Like the French word Colombier , columbarium means ' pigeon house '. The origin of the place name is unknown, but there are still some pigeon houses on the farms in the area.
In 1793 Colombier-en-Brionnais received in the course of the French Revolution (1789-1799) under the name Colombier the status of a municipality and in 1801 it received the right to local self-government.
Culture
In the parish church de l'Assomption there was a painting by Mathieu Le Nain from the 17th century. It represents the Annunciation . The painting was classified as a Monument historique in 1987 and sold to the Musée Rolin in Autun in 1988. There is also a monumental wall painting in the church. The wall painting is painted on plaster with lime paint and depicts a crucifix , the Virgin Mary and John the Baptist . The painting dates from the 16th or 17th century.

The primary school in Colombier-en-Brionnais hosts school children from three municipalities, Colombier-en-Brionnais, Ouroux-sous-le-Bois-Sainte-Marie and Ozolles. There are several shops and craft shops in town. The nearest train station , Gare de La Clayette - Baudemont , is about 8 kilometers away in La Clayette . The nearest airport is the Aéroport de Saint-Yan , 26 kilometers away in the south of the municipality of Saint-Yan .
