Marcigny |
Marcigny is a French commune with 1,780 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté . It is located in the Brionnais landscape and belongs to the Paray-le-Monial canton . Marcigny is one of the twin cities of the small Palatinate town of Freinsheim .
There were once numerous monasteries in the vicinity of the place. The meetings of the nuns held there gave the place the name Marcigny-les-Nonnains .
In terms of tourism, the small town is mainly known for the remains of the former priory , which today houses a museum for old faience .
