history

Charles I. de Blanchefort, marquis de Créquy (around 1575 to 1638) had a castle built in the hamlet of La Bazolle around 1620 . It remained in the family's possession until 1748, when Comte Gilbert de Drée bought the castle. In 1769 he was made marquis and La Bazolle was renamed Drée after his name . The Marquis de Drée and the Seigneur de La Clayette shared the right to seigneurial justice.

In 1793 Curbigny had 360 inhabitants and received the status of a municipality in the course of the French Revolution (1789–1799). In 1801 it received the right to local self-government.

Culture and sights

The Drée Castle was built in the 17th century. In 1837 the Comtesse Tournon-Simiane acquired the castle. Her descendants, the Princes of Croÿ owned the castle until 1993. In 1959, parts of the castle complex were entered in the additional directory of the Monuments historiques ('historical monuments'), which concerns the facades and the roof of the castle, the outbuildings and the two octagonal pavilions that stand at the entrance to the park. The castle is now owned by an association that takes care of the restoration and organizes guided tours. The castle and its park can be visited during the summer months.

Drée Castle

The La Clayette Castle is located partly in the municipality of Curbigny. It was originally a 15th century castle that was converted into a palace in 1830. It is partly classified as a Monument historique, partly entered in the additional directory of the Monuments historiques. Castle, park and pond are also classified as site classée ('natural monument'). It also belongs to a private association.

The roof of the Romanesque parish church of Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens ('St. Peter in Chains') was renovated in 2011.
