Iguerande is a French municipality with 996 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
location
Iguerande lies at an altitude of about 270 meters above sea level. d. M. on the east bank of the Loire in the old cultural landscape of the Brionnais in the south of Burgundy. The place is about 34 kilometers (driving distance) south of Paray-le-Monial and about 22 kilometers north of Roanne . The places worth seeing Marcigny , Semur-en-Brionnais , Saint-Julien-de-Jonzy and Charlieu are all within a radius of only 10-15 kilometers.

economy
The hilly surroundings of Iguerande have always been characterized by agriculture, with viticulture, which continued into the 19th century, was completely abandoned after the phylloxera crisis . Nowadays cattle breeding ( Charolais cattle) plays a bigger role. The place itself functioned as a handicraft, trade and service center for several hamlets and individual farms in the area until the early 20th century.
history
The history of the place and its surroundings goes back a long way: During work on the railway line in 1880, Paleolithic flint finds and a polished ax made of green porphyry from the Neolithic period were discovered. In Celtic times the border between the settlement area of the Hädu and that of the Segusiavi ran here . A church is already mentioned in a document from the 10th century. In the high Middle Ages the place belonged to the Cluniac priory of Marcigny , which established another priory here.
