Maltat is a French municipality with 283 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté (before 2016 Bourgogne ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement Charolles and the canton Digoin (until 2015 Bourbon-Lancy ). The inhabitants are called Malta .

Maltat is about 45 kilometers east-northeast of Moulins . Maltat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cronat in the north and north-west, Saint-Seine in the north, Cressy-sur-Somme in the north-east, Grury in the east, Mont in the south, Bourbon-Lancy in the south and south-west and Vitry-sur-Loire in the west.
