Melay is a French municipality with 994 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté (before 2016 Bourgogne ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Charolles and the canton of Paray-le-Monial ( Marcigny until 2015 ). The inhabitants are called melayots .

Melay is in the Charolais countryside . The Loire limits the municipality to the east. Neighboring municipalities of Melay are Artaix in the north, Saint-Martin-du-Lac in the northeast, Iguerande in the east, Paray-le-Monial in the east, Briennon in the southeast, La Bénisson-Dieu and Noailly in the south, Vivans in the west and Chenay-le -Châtel in the northwest.
