Briennon is about twelve kilometers north of Roanne on the western bank of the Loire , which forms the eastern municipal border. The Canal de Roanne à Digoin runs through the municipality . Briennon is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Iguerande in the north (Saône-et-Loire department), Saint-Pierre-la-Noaille in the northeast, Saint-Nizier-sous-Charlieu in the east and northeast, Pouilly-sous-Charlieu in the east, Vougy in the South-east, Mably in the south, Noailly in the west and south-west, La Bénisson-Dieu in the west and Melay (Saône-et-Loire) in the north-west.
