Montagny is about twelve kilometers east of Roanne . Montagny is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Coutouvre in the north, La Gresle in the northeast, Bourg-de-Thizy in the east, Combre in the east and southeast, Saint-Victor-sur-Rhins in the southeast, Régny in the south, Pradines in the southwest and Perreux in the west .
