Saint-Romain-la-Motte is about nine kilometers northwest of Roanne in the Forez . In the south the river Oudan runs in the north the Cacherat , which is still called Fillerin here . Saint-Romain-la-Motte is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Germain-Lespinasse in the north and north-west, Noailly in the north, Mably in the east, Riorges in the south-east, Pouilly-les-Nonains in the south, Renaison in the south-west and Saint-Haon- le-Vieux to the west.
