Vivans is located around 23 kilometers north-north-west of Roanne in the Côte Roannaise wine-growing region , which extends on the slopes of the Monts de la Madeleine mountain range. Vivans is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Chenay-le-Châtel in the north, Melay in the east, Noailly in the south-east, Saint-Forgeux-Lespinasse in the south, Changy in the south and south-west and La Pacaudière in the west.
