Never Give Up is a song that the singer-songwriter Sia contributed to the soundtrack of the movie Lion - The Long Way Home and which she wrote together with Greg Kurstin , who also produced the song.

Never Give Up was written by singer-songwriter Sia together with Greg Kurstin for the film Lion - The Long Way Home . Kurstin also produced the song.

In the film, five-year-old Saroo lives in a small village in India . One day he accompanies his big brother Guddu to work and is supposed to wait for him at the train station, but when Guddu does not show up and his search for him is unsuccessful, the boy climbs into an empty train to wait for him there. However, Saroo falls asleep and when he wakes up, the train is on its way to Calcutta, 1,600 kilometers away . Here he is taken in and adopted by an Australian couple. As an adult, he uses Google Earth to search India for the train station where he lost his brother. He travels to India and actually finds his mother and sister.

In keeping with the film, Sia's song Never Give Up is about not losing hope in difficult times. Even if other people put obstacles in the way, there is always a way. The last lines of the song fit the film exactly, but in a figurative sense also to many life situations: Even if the situation seems hopeless, you can always find a way home.

Music video

The music video for the song, which was released at the beginning of January 2017, is inspired by the film and shows a train station, with text passages from the song displayed on walls and trains parallel to the singing. The people to be seen in it have black shadows instead of faces. The little girl who can be seen in the music video is the then 11-year-old dancer, actress and rapper Prymrr.

Channing Sargent of hellogiggles.com says the song has a wide range of Bollywood vibes.

Sam Murphy from Music Feeds says: "Sia taps into the Indian roots of the film by delivering a Bollywood vibe beneath her characteristically sunny undertones."

Chart successes

After its release, Never Give Up entered the iTunes Soundtrack Top 100 at number 15. In the German airplay charts the song landed at number one , in the German single charts the song had its highest position at number eight.
