Commelle-Vernay is about five kilometers south of Roanne on the east bank of the Loire . Commelle-Vernay is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Roanne in the north, Le Coteau in the northeast, Parigny in the east, Saint-Cyr-de-Favières in the southeast, Cordelle in the south, Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire in the southwest and Villerest in the West.
