Saint-Rirand is located about 17 kilometers west-northwest of Roanne on the Forez . The Tey sun flows through the community . Saint-Rirand is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Bonnet-des-Quarts in the north, Ambierle in the northeast, Saint-Haon-le-Vieux in the east, Renaison in the southeast, Les Noës in the south and Saint-Nicolas-des-Biefs (Département Allier) in the west.
