Otto Kier (District Administrator)

Otto Detleff Harald Kier (born November 12, 1829 in Hadersleben , † August 17, 1899 in Altona ) was a Danish and German administrative officer.

Life

Otto Kier was born as the son of the mayor of Hadersleben, Otto Kier . Like his father, he studied law at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1845 he became a member of the Corps Holsatia . In the same year he joined the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg . After completing his studies, he entered the Danish civil service and became a bailiff of Haderslev's office in the Duchy of Schleswig . After the German-Danish War he remained in office. At the end of January 1866 he presented Otto von Bismarck with a memorandum, which was also submitted to King Wilhelm I and approved by him.

After the province of Schleswig-Holstein was founded, in 1868 Kier became the first district administrator in the Hadersleben district . In 1871 he went to Heide as district administrator for the Norderdithmarschen district . He held the office until 1889. He then lived in Altona until his death.
