It belongs to the Arrondissement Charolles (until 2017 Autun ) and the canton Gueugnon (until 2015 Issy-l'Évêque ). The inhabitants are called Cressyçois .

Cressy-sur-Somme is about fifty kilometers southwest of Autun on the Somme . Neighboring municipalities of Cressy-sur-Somme are Ternant in the north, Tazilly in the northeast, Marly-sous-Issy in the east and northeast, Grury in the south and east, Maltat in the southwest and Saint-Seine in the west.
