It belongs to the Arrondissement Charolles and the community association La Clayette Chauffailles en Brionnais, founded in 2016 . The inhabitants are called Edmonciens .

Saint-Edmond is located about 55 kilometers west-southwest of Mâcon in the hills of Brionnais and Charolais . Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Edmond are Ligny-en-Brionnais in the north, Saint-Maurice-lès-Châteauneuf in the northeast, Saint-Martin-de-Lixy in the east and southeast, Saint-Denis-de-Cabanne in the south and Saint-Bonnet- de-cray to the west.
