Mailly is a French municipality with 155 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Saone-et-Loire in the region of Bourgogne Franche-Comté .
location
Mailly lies at an altitude of about 420 meters above sea level. d. M. in the old cultural landscape of the Brionnais in the south of Burgundy. The place is about 35 kilometers (driving distance) south of Paray-le-Monial and about 25 kilometers north of Roanne . The places worth seeing Marcigny , Semur-en-Brionnais , Saint-Julien-de-Jonzy , Charlieu and Iguerande are all within a radius of only 10-15 kilometers.

economy
The hilly area around Mailly has always been characterized by agriculture, with viticulture, which continued into the 19th century, was completely given up after the phylloxera crisis . Nowadays cattle breeding ( Charolais cattle) plays a bigger role. The place itself functioned as a handicraft, trade and service center for several hamlets and individual farms in the area until the early 20th century.
Attractions
- The parish church of Mailly is still partly of late Romanesque origin. The originally single-nave nave was enlarged to three naves in the 19th century. The church was built over a crypt that was not rediscovered until the 1970s.
- A three-wing, two-storey palace complex is only a short distance away.
