General Fressinet

Philibert Fressinet (born July 21, 1767 in Marcigny , † August 2, 1821 in Paris ) was a French Général de division .

Life

Fressinet joined the royal army as a cadet and soon made a career there. Attracted by the ideas of the revolution , he also became a partisan of Napoleon at an early age .

Fressinet took part in Napoleon's Italian campaign and was also known for his bravery in the Helvetic Republic . On April 30, 1798, he defeated the rebellious Glarus people near Wollerau .

Under General Dessoles he fought at Taufers in 1799 and on December 25, 1800 at Mincio .

He joined the invading army of General Charles Victoire Emmanuel Leclerc and sailed to Saint-Domingue ( Hispaniola ) to fight the insurgents under Toussaint Louverture . After General d'Ostin's death, Fressinet returned to France in early 1803. After further promotions he came to the staff of Marshal Louis-Alexandre Berthier .

Fressinet took part in the Russian campaign in 1812 and was known for his bravery at Großgörschen (May 2, 1813).

In spring 1814 he was with his division under the viceroy Eugen Beauharnais in northern Italy and fought on February 8th in the corps of General Verdier in the battle of the Mincio . After Napoleon's abdication, Fressinet joined the House of Bourbon in March 1814 . When Napoleon left the island of Elba and his " rule of the hundred days " began, he again took the side of the emperor. He left the army after the Battle of Waterloo (June 18, 1815) and went into exile during the Restoration . When he returned to France on December 1, 1819, he was imprisoned immediately.

At the beginning of 1820 he was released again, but was no longer awarded any offices. Philibert Fressinet died twelve days after his 54th birthday on August 2, 1821 in Paris, where he found his final resting place.
