Do You Want to Know a Secret ( English Want to know a secret ) is a song by British band The Beatles from 1963. It appeared on their debut album Please Please Me . The song was composed by John Lennon , but it is under the Beatles' usual copyright notice Lennon / McCartney .

John Lennon was inspired by the song Wishing Well from the Disney film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs from 1937 for Do You Want to Know a Secret . His mother had sung the song to him many times in his childhood. In the song, Lennon describes a secret apartment in Liverpool that belonged to Beatles manager Brian Epstein . He had occasionally left them to the newly married couple Cynthia and John Lennon.
The song was sung by George Harrison .

John Lennon made his first demo recording in Hamburg on the toilet of a night club. This location was chosen because it was only there that it was quiet enough for the recording. When the recording Lennon pulled the flush . This recording has not been preserved.
Do You Want to Know a Secret was one of ten songs that the Beatles recorded on February 11, 1963 in London's Abbey Road Studios for their debut album Please Please Me . The producer was George Martin , assisted by Norman Smith . Accompanying instruments and vocals were recorded live in six takes on a two-track tape. A year later, the song appeared on single in the United States , where it peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 . A version of the album On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2 was released in 2013, which the band had recorded for the BBC radio station .
