Free as a Bird ( english Free as a bird ) is published on 4 December 1995 CD Maxi Single (formerly EP ) of the British rock band The Beatles . It was the Beatles' 15th EP in the UK and the second EP to be released on Apple (catalog number R 6422). The CD maxi single was also released in the USA and Germany. The song Free as a Bird comes from the album Anthology 1 .

background

The CD maxi single and single Free as a Bird was released two weeks after the album Anthology 1 was released on November 20, 1995. The EP contains three songs that are not on the album Anthology 1 and so far only on this CD -Maxisingle are available. In addition, Free as a Bird was also released as a 7 " vinyl single and also as a CD single in Europe. The 7 ″ vinyl single / CD single contains the songs Free as a Bird / Christmas Time (Is Here Again) , with the A-side shortened to 2:42 minutes on the vinyl single.

On December 16, 1995, the CD maxi / single went into the British singles charts; overall, held Free as a Bird eight weeks in the singles chart, reaching number 2. In the first week 120,000 copies were sold. In the USA the single reached number 6 and in Germany number 37 in the singles charts.

The cover was designed by Richard Ward / The Team. The drawing on the front cover is by John Lennon . The back cover text was written by Mark Lewisohn .

- Recorded on November 28, 1967 at Abbey Road Studios. Sung by the Beatles. This version is a shortened version (original length: 6:07 min.) Of the Christmas single from 1967, whereby essentially only the musical part was taken over.
