Reel Music ( English film music [analogously] → 'Reel' = film reel ) is the eighth compilation album of the British group The Beatles after their separation, which contains previously published recordings, in the USA their sixth. The album was released on March 23, 1982 in Great Britain, on March 22, 1982 in the USA and on March 24, 1982 in Germany.
Emergence
The record contract between EMI and the Beatles expired on February 6, 1976, so that from this point in time the EMI was entitled to publish compilation albums without obtaining the consent of the Beatles. The first released in 1976 was the double album Rock 'n' Roll Music , which in a broader sense includes rock songs by the Beatles, followed the following year by Love Songs , which includes love songs by the Beatles. Another themed album was released three years later with the album The Beatles Ballads .
In March 1982 an album followed with Reel Music , which exclusively contains songs from the five Beatles films A Hard Day's Night (four songs), Help! (three songs), Magical Mystery Tour (two songs), Yellow Submarine (two songs), and Let It Be (three songs). The composition of the songs was done by Randall Davis and Steve Meyer.
In the US edition, the song I Should Have Known Better has a clearer harmonica sound . Who made this new mix is not documented. Furthermore, due to the album release, the British stereo versions of the songs A Hard Day's Night , Ticket to Ride and I Am the Walrus were released for the first time in the USA .
Reel Music is the Beatles' first newly released compilation album that did not make it into the UK charts. From 1984 the album was no longer made in Great Britain. In the US, Reel Music reached number 19, and in December 1996 it was awarded gold in the US for 500,000 copies sold.
Reel Music was pressed in a limited edition on yellow vinyl in Canada and the USA.

Outcouplings
When the album Reel Music was released in the USA in March 1982, the single The Beatles' Movie Medley was released, which is not on the album. The A-side consists of a compilation of parts of the songs Magical Mystery Tour , All You Need Is Love , You've Got to Hide Your Love Away , I Should Have Known Better , A Hard Day's Night , Ticket to Ride and Get Back . The editing of the songs comes from the sound engineer John Palladino.
The possible inspiration for this release comes from the commercially successful single Stars on 45 , which contains several sung Beatles songs. These songs were sung by artists who had similar voices to John Lennon and Paul McCartney .
Originally scheduled to take the B-side I'm Happy Just to Dance with You , by the album A Hard Day's Night comes, an interview that during the filming of A Hard Day's Night was recorded, titled Fab Four on Film to publish. 7 "and 12" vinyl promotional singles have been produced in the US that contain this interview.
It was only after the single was successful in the US that it was released in Great Britain in May 1982, where it became the Beatles' 23rd top ten hit.
A legal publication in CD format has not yet taken place.
