- Introducing ... The Beatles Meet the Beatles!
(1964)

Introducing ... The Beatles ( English will be introduced ... The Beatles ) is the first in the United States published album of the British band The Beatles . It was released on January 10, 1964. The album was sold by Vee-Jay Records instead of Capitol Records , which led to legal battles as a result. The album is based on Please Please Me , the group's UK debut album .

Emergence

The Beatles - Twist and Shout (US single)

After Capitol Records had turned down the offer to take over the EMI distribution rights for the USA for the Beatles, Vee-Jay Records signed a contract with the Beatles. The first US release of a Beatles single was on February 25, 1963 with Please Please Me / Ask Me Why (Vee-Jay # 498), followed on May 27, 1963 From Me to You / Thank You Girl (Vee-Jay # 522). On September 16, 1963, the single She Loves You / I'll Get You (Swan # 4152) was released on the Swan label . None of the three singles made it into the US Billboard Hot 100 in 1963 .

In December 1963, Brian Epstein , the Beatles' manager, signed a recording deal with Capitol Records for future Beatles releases. On December 26, 1963, the Beatles' first single, I Want to Hold Your Hand / I Saw Her Standing There, was released on Capitol Records. The single rose to number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 18, 1964. Two weeks later, I Want to Hold Your Hand topped the charts. It was the Beatles' commercial breakthrough in the United States.

On January 10, 1964, Vee-Jay Records released the album Introducing ... The Beatles , of which more than a million copies were sold in the United States. Shortly after its release, Capitol Records took legal action on January 15, 1964 to prohibit Vee-Jay Records from distributing Beatles records. A slightly modified version of the album Introducing… The Beatles was released around February 10, 1964. Vee-Jay had not received the necessary licenses for the songs Love Me Do and PS I Love You and exchanged these pieces for Please Please Me and Ask Me Why out. Introducing ... The Beatles took second place on Billboard's Hit Parade , where it remained for nine weeks; the album Meet the Beatles! took first place at the same time. Both versions of the album were released in a mono and a stereo version.

On February 26, 1964, Vee-Jay released the album Jolly What! The Beatles & Frank Ifield on Stage . It contained four previously released studio recordings by the Beatles. The remaining tracks were live recordings by Frank Ifield . In July 1964, Introducing ... The Beatles appeared again under the title Songs, Pictures & Stories of the Fabulous Beatles   with a completely different cover design.

On October 1, 1964, the double LP The Beatles vs. The Four Seasons   , which contained no new material but was just another release of Introducing… The Beatles and a compilation of the Four Seasons . The litigation between Capitol Records and Vee-Jay Records escalated, and because of this legal uncertainty, Beatles records were released on four other labels in addition to Vee-Jay. The recently founded Vee Jay subsidiary label Tollie also took part, on which Twist and Shout / There's a Place (Tollie 9001) appeared on March 2, 1964 . Vee-Jay Records was granted the right to publish Beatles records until October 15, 1964. On January 30, 1964 the single Please Please Me / From to You (Vee-Jay # 581) was released again, followed by the singles Do You Want to Know a Secret / Thank You Girl on March 23, 1964, Love Me Do / PS I Love You on April 27, 1964 and March 23, 1964 the EP Souvenir of their Visit to America with the songs Misery , A Taste of Honey / Ask Me Why and Anna (Go to Him) was also   released. In November 1964, Vee-Jay Records released an interview album entitled Hear the Beatles Tell All in the USA .
