The Ballad of John and Yoko ( English The Ballad of John and Yoko ) is a song by the British rock band The Beatles . The piece was written by John Lennon alone, even if it was assigned the copyright Lennon / McCartney - as was customary in Beatles times . The song was released as a single in May 1969 along with the Harrison composition Old Brown Shoe .

Emergence

In this song, John Lennon dealt with the difficulties with the press and authorities that he had when he wanted to marry Yoko Ono . The text also cites the famous “ Bed-In ” in Amsterdam and the “ Bag-In ” in Vienna , which Lennon and Ono undertook in the spring of 1969 after their wedding.

admission

When the piece was recorded on April 14, 1969 in London's Abbey Road Studios , only two of the four Beatles were involved, John Lennon and Paul McCartney . George Harrison was away and Ringo Starr was filming the feature film The Magic Christian . Lennon played rhythm and lead guitar and sang, while McCartney took over the second voice and all other instruments, i.e. bass , piano , maracas and drums .

successes

The song became the Beatles' 17th and final number one hit in the UK. It reached number 8 on the US charts.
