background
The exact date of the EP Extracts from the album A Hard Day's Night release is unclear. Many older sources mention November 6, 1964, just two days after the release of the previous EP Extracts from the Film A Hard Day's Night , which from the record company's point of view would have been economically awkward as the two EPs competed with each other would have. Beatles discography writer and expert Bruce Spizer believes Extracts from the album A Hard Day's Night wasn't actually released until late December 1964. This is also supported by the fact that it was first listed on the British EP charts on January 7, 1965. The EP entered the EP charts at number 11, the best ranking was at number 7. In total, Extracts from the album A Hard Day's Night stayed in the EP charts for 17 weeks, five of them in the top 10. It was the Beatles' lowest-selling EP in the UK to date. In contrast to its predecessors, it was not listed in the British singles charts.
