Twist and Shout ( English turning and screaming ) is published on 12 July 1963 EP of the British rock band The Beatles . It was the Beatles' first EP to be released on Parlophone (catalog number GEP 8882). All four tracks on the EP come from the album Please Please Me , the group's debut album. The EP was only released in mono .
background
By the time their first British EP was released, the dominant position of the Beatles was already emerging, at least in Great Britain. Her debut album Please Please Me had been number 1 on the British album charts for several weeks, the single of the same name had reached number 2 on the singles chart and From Me to You , the follow -up single , had been at number 1 since May 4, 1963.
In a statement from their record company to the British music magazine Melody Maker , the choice of the title of the first EP was justified with the enormous demand for the Beatles version of Twist and Shout . Shortly after the EP was announced, pre-orders for more than 50,000 records were available according to EMI .
In the first four days after its publication, 150,000 copies had already been sold. By November 1963, the EMI reported 650,000 copies sold. The EP not only reached number one on the Record Retailer's EP charts , but also number two on the Melody Maker singles chart and number four on the New Musical Express (NME) singles chart . It was the first EP that could place in the NME singles charts. The EP became the fourth best-selling record in the UK in 1963.
In Germany, two months before its British release, the EP was released in May 1963 under the simple name The Beatles (catalog number: ODEON O 41560) with a different cover. The Beatles' first German long-playing record, Die Zentral Tanzschaffe of the world-famous four from Liverpool (German title of the album Please Please Me ), was only released on February 6, 1964.
